How long it takes to fully backup Windows
The timing for Windows backup depends on how much free Windows space you have and how much space all installed programs are consuming, and how fast or slow the hard drives and drives are. External or USB device where the selected image file is stored.
With Windows on an SSD drive and a USB 3.0 device, speeds are between 180-190MB / s. With USB 2.0 devices, the creation speed will be much slower.
In both of the above cases, it is best to choose “Check Backup Integrity on Completion”.
When the process reaches 100% and the successful message is received, a full Windows backup will take place.
Create Boot Disk
In many cases, you need to restore a Windows backup to its original state when your old Windows settings no longer work or have failed. Therefore, the creation of a disk or USB Boot is very necessary.
Click on Utilities >> Create Bootable Media.
AOMEI Backupper lets us choose between a Linux-based boot disk or a Windows PE boot CD. Both disc types are not the same and you should choose Windows PE because it has more features, and it is a better choice.
AOMEI allows you to burn CDs or DVDs, create a bootable USB flash drive, or export an ISO file for later use. If we choose USB, it is important to choose USB other than creating Windows full backup images.
The apps will format the USB drive and erase any data inside, so make sure nothing important is done before selecting “Yes”.
It takes about 2 minutes for the USB Boot to complete.
Restore the created backup
In case your Windows is severely damaged and needs a full recovery of Windows. Then this will be the part you need.
First, we select the Boot disk, either via BIOS / UEFI or on the boot menu. Then, select the USB or DVD that you created from the USB Boot step.
Once we launch the recovery tool, we will first see the Windows logo.
The AOMEI Backupper environment will then load, identical to the Windows installation program.
Just choose “Restore“, and choose the path where the system will look for the image file.
If the full Windows backup image is split into multiple files, select the file that is not numbered first.
Select “Yes” to restore the system….
… And select Next
AOMEI Backupper will show you the recovery details in the example containing both Windows partitions and saved systems.
Using the Windows backup file on an internal SSD or a USB 3.0 external drive will happen a lot faster during Windows recovery.
