Step 1: Open the Run application on your computer using the Start Menu search bar or press the Windows + R shortcut.
Step 2: Type “dxdiag” in the Run dialog box and press Enter.
Step 3: If there is a bulletin board as shown below appears, choose No. Then wait a few seconds for the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window to open.
Step 4: Under the System tab, you will see an entry called DirectX version. Next to it will be the DirectX version that you currently have installed on your computer.
Once you know the DirectX version installed on your computer, you can easily download the latest update for it. And even if your computer does not have any DirectX version installed, you can still follow the steps below to download and install DirectX for PC.
List of DirectX versions
DirectX 12: Pre-installed on Windows 10 and only supports Windows 10. You can get DirectX updates through Windows 10 updates. There is no standalone version for DirectX 12.
DirectX 11.4 and DirectX 11.3: Only supports Windows 10. Like DirectX12, you can get DirectX 11.4 and 11.3 updates through Windows 10 update.
DirectX 11.2: Supports Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2. You can also update this DirectX 11.2 through Windows update.
DirectX 11.1: Supports Windows 10 and Windows 8. Also, if Platform Update is installed on Windows 7, then DirectX 11.1 is installed.
DirectX 11.0: Supports Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7. However, if Platform Update is installed on Windows Vista, then DirectX 11.0 is also supported.
DirectX 10: Supports Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista.
DirectX 9: Supports Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP.
How To Install Directx For Windows 10
Step 1: Use the web browser you are using on your machine and go to Microsoft’s official DirectX download page at the address below:
Step 2: Scroll down and select the language you want to use and click the red Download button next to it.
Step 3: You will then be automatically downloaded DirectX on your computer, or you can click click here to download manually if DirectX is not automatically downloaded.
Step 4: At the location you choose to download, there will be a file named dxwebsetup.exe.
Step 5: Double click on the dxwebsetup.exe file to open it. Usually, the file will be located in the Download folder.
Step 6: Check the I accept the agreement box and click Next to continue to install DirectX.
Step 7: Next, you will be asked to install Bing Bar. If you want, please check the box Install the Bing bar, or turn it off if you do not want to install it. Click Next to continue with the DirectX installation process.
Step 8: Now, DirectX will list what to download as well as its size. Click Next.
Step 9: After clicking Next, DirectX will be downloaded and installed automatically on Windows.
Step 10: When the installation is successful, you will see the words the components installed are now ready for use on your screen like the following. Click Finish.
Step 11: Restart your computer, and you have installed and updated DirectX to the latest version for your Windows computer.
